I’ll admit it – I hate resolutions. It’s this weird pressure we put on ourselves to make drastic changes for the better. We want to work out more, eat better, save more money, etc. Honestly, it’s usually a halfhearted wish we make, with no real plan to follow through. I feel like the problem is, they are things we think we should do, brought on by peer pressure. What if we created fun goals or identified things we wanted to do, and made it happen? Here are 5 ideas for fun, that are easy to achieve, and things we actually might want to do that involve our favorite fandoms.
Go to Comic Con You’ve Never Been to Before
Last year was the first year I actually went to a comic con. It was fun, and I will definitely go again this year, but there are so many I want to go to outside of Vegas. I’m hoping to go Leaky Con in Boston and deciding on one more outside of Vegas this year. Comment below with a Comic Con you love!
Watch A New Fandom Show
2018 I really started expanding my show list. I had never watched the BBC Sherlock; I am so glad I did. Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman are brilliant and watching this show I got to see them as new characters that I have grown to love. This year, my goal is to watch all of Dr. Who. I know I’m way behind on this fandom, but it’s never too late to catch up and experience a whole new universe.
Read A New Fan Fiction Book
So, it’s embarrassing to admit, but I bought a collection Star Wars Books a year ago, and I’ve read about half of one out of the eight books I bought. 2018 was a pretty busy year with school, but I’ve also watched way too much Netflix. Another goal of mine is to actually work my way through the books, so I can move on to other series. I hope one day to collect and re-read all the Harry Potter books, Percy Jackson, Lord of the Rings, Game of Thrones, and all the Star Wars Books. For now, just getting through my EU of Star Wars is a good start, and something I actually want to do.
Join A New Group
There are so many groups for different fandoms out there to join and connect with other who have the same love for fandoms. I am involved with a few blog groups, a local fandom group, and even started one for geeky ladies out here to help connect others. If you can’t find a group, create your own, because there are probably others who are looking to connect just like you, but they don’t know where to start.
Learn A New Skill
This goal is a little more obscure, but is there something you wanted to learn but never did? How about learning to sew to create a dream cosplay? What about wielding a lightsaber? Or learning elvish? Find something you are passionate about and develop a cool skill. The sky is the limit!
These are just a few ideas, and hey, the odds are we don’t follow through. The chances though of achieving a new goal are way greater when it’s something you love, rather than something your heart is not truly in. Comment below with other ideas for fun goals for 2019!
